MISSION, BC, April 29, 2005 - A female visitor was arrested recently when she tried to bring drugs into Mission Institution.
On April 22, the visitor was searched at the gate by the Institutional K-9 unit. The dog gave a positive indication on the visitor. Correctional staff called the Mission RCMP and the visitor turned over 18.5 grams of drugs believed to be marijuana. RCMP arrested the visitor.
The Correctional Service of Canada employs intelligence gathering strategies, searches, ion scanners and passive drug dog searches as part of a comprehensive drug interdiction policy to minimize the introduction of drugs and other contraband in the institutional environment.
Mission Institution is a medium-security facility for federally-sentenced men operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. The Institution is located in Mission, 70 km east of Vancouver.
