FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AGASSIZ, BC, July 1, 2005 - At approximately 4 PM on Friday, July 1^st, Mountain Institution was locked down due to a security incident that occurred. Following a review of the incident an exceptional search was authorized on July 1^st. No staff or inmate injuries have occurred as a result of this incident.

The Institution remains locked down to facilitate a search. All regularly scheduled visits have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown.

Mountain Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Agassiz and currently houses 468 federally sentenced, male inmates.
