AGASSIZ, BC, July 4, 2005 - The lockdown of inmates at Mountain Institution will end this evening as the institution returns to normal operations following an exceptional search. The institution had been locked down for a search after information was received indicating the possibility of a homemade firearm being in the institution.
The institution has been searched. No firearm or further indication of a firearm was found. During the search, contraband including three homemade weapons, a cell phone, tattoo paraphernalia and a number of unauthorized items was found.
Mountain Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Agassiz, B.C. and has a current population of 460 male offenders.
