AGASSIZ, BC, September 8, 2005 - Inmates at Mountain Institution are locked down while staffs conduct a search of cells, buildings and grounds within the entire institution.
This action was taken after a stash of homemade weapons was found under the library building.
Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been suspended. Inmates will remain confined to their cells until all inmates, inmate cells, buildings and grounds areas have been searched.
Correctional Services of Canada works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates. The institution will re-open once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
Mountain Institution is a federal male medium-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution contains five living units, currently housing a total of 456 inmates.
