AGASSIZ, BC, September 28, 2005 - A living unit housing 86 inmates at Kent Institution is locked down as a result of an inmate being stabbed late last night (September 27).
A suspect in the stabbing has been identified and both the RCMP and the institution's Security Intelligence Office are investigating the incident.
Health Services staff immediately treated the injured inmate, who was later transferred to an outside hospital for non-life threatening-injuries. He remains in hospital for observation purposes only.
No staffs were injured during this incident.
An institutional search for weapons is in progress. Unit One will remain locked down until the search is complete.
Kent Institution is a federal maximum-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 289 inmates.
