AGASSIZ, BC, October 3, 2005 - A living unit housing 26 inmates at Kent Institution is locked down as a result of an inmate being stabbed Saturday evening (October 1).
Two suspects in the stabbing have been identified and both the RCMP and the institution's Security Intelligence Office are investigating the incident.
Health Services staff immediately treated the injured inmate, who was later transferred to an outside hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He was released from hospital a few hours later.
No staff were injured during this incident.
An institutional search for weapons is in progress. Two home-made weapons have been found. The living unit will remain locked down until the search is complete.
Kent Institution is a federal maximum security institution located 120 km east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 241 inmates.
