ABBOTSFORD, BC, October 14, 2005 - The lock down of inmates at Matsqui Institution ended at 6 p.m. Thursday October 13. Regularly scheduled visits and other planned activities have now recommenced.
Inmates had been confined to their cells since October 8 to facilitate searching of the institution for a missing kitchen knife and other weapons.
The search resulted in the confiscation of various home-made weapons, drug paraphernalia and other unauthorized items.
Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a population of 327 male offenders.
