FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, December 19, 2005 - Inmates at Matsqui Institution were locked in their cells as the institution was placed on lockdown today at 3:30 p.m. (December 19) to facilitate searching of the institution.

This action was taken after some live ammunition and knives were found during a search. Searching is continuing in order to locate any other weapon-related contraband, drugs or home brew.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 330 male offenders.
