FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT PACIFIC INSTITUTION

ABBOTSFORD, BC, April 18, 2006 - An inmate died of natural causes yesterday (April 17) at the Pacific Institution/Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford.

Alasdair MacMillan, age 63, was pronounced dead at the institution's Medical Hospital where he was convalescing.

Mr. MacMillan was serving a six-year sentence for manslaughter. His sentence commenced April 8, 2005.

Next of kin have been notified.

The Pacific Institution and Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 19-bed medical hospital, 96-bed psychiatric hospital, 96-bed rehabilitation unit, 127-bed program unit and a 96-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
