FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, April 24, 2006 - The lock down of inmates at Fraser Valley Institution ended Saturday evening (April 22). Regularly scheduled visits and other planned activities have now resumed.

Inmates had been confined to their housing units since April 21 to facilitate searching of the institution for a missing kitchen knife.

Fraser Valley Institution is a multi-level security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a population of 50 female offenders.
