FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MISSION, BC, April 28, 2006 - Mission Institution has resumed normal operations after a lockdown yesterday afternoon.
At 2:20 yesterday afternoon, an inmate was discovered in his cell with multiple injuries initially thought to be consistent with an assault. The institution conducted interviews and a general search for possible weapons and evidence of participation in an assault. No weapons were found. A risk assessment has been conducted. The injuries appear to have been self-inflicted, and the inmate is in serious but stable condition.
No other staff or inmates were injured and the institution has returned to normal routine.
Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 267 male offenders.
