FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, June 14, 2006 - Matsqui Institution was locked down yesterday evening at 10 p.m. (June 13th). All general population inmates are locked in their cells.

This action was taken in response to information received about the possibility of dangerous contraband being present in the institution.

Correctional officers are searching specific areas of the institution.

Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a capacity of 338 male offenders.
