FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, August 1, 2006 - A 68 year old inmate died today at Pacific Institution / Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford.

Donald Edward Fortin died of natural causes at the institution's Medical Hospital.

Mr. Fortin was serving a three-year, six-month sentence for sexual interference with a female under 14 and gross indecency. His sentence commenced June 20, 2005.

Next of kin have been notified.

The Pacific Institution and Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 19-bed medical hospital, 96-bed psychiatric hospital, 96-bed rehabilitation unit, 127-bed program unit and a 96-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
