FRASER VALLEY INSTITUTION AND THE LANGLEY ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

ABBOTSFORD, BC, August 17, 2006 - Fraser Valley Institution (FVI) and the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to operate jointly a shelter for abused and rescued dogs.

The MOU, which was signed August 4, outlines a joint non-profit shelter run by LAPS and women inmates at FVI. The shelter will provide training and socialization skills for abused and rescued dogs so that they may be successfully adopted.

The project will provide care and training to approximately six dogs at a time.

The inmates will learn how to handle, train and groom dogs in addition to other skills required to operate the shelter.

The LAPS is a registered non-profit society devoted to animal care.
