ESCAPE FROM KWIKWEXWELHP HEALING VILLAGE

HARRISON, BC, September 5, 2006 - The Correctional Service of Canada has issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of an offender who was residing at Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of 34-year-old Darrell McCaig following his escape today (September 5) from minimum-security Kwìkwèxwelhp.

The offender is serving a 17-year, 11-month sentence for assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, two counts of robbery, attempt murder, use of firearm while committing, six counts of break, enter and commit, theft over, attempt indictable offence, escape lawful custody; possession of property obtained by crime, unlawfully at large, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstruct public/peace officer.

His sentenced commenced on July 24, 1990 and his statutory release date is in August, 2008.

Mr. McCaig is an Aboriginal offender, approximately 178 cms tall (5'10") and weighs 68 kgs (150 lbs). He has short brown hair, and brown eyes.

The Agassiz RCMP have been notified.

Kwìkwèxwelhp is a federally-operated, minimum security institution located approximately 37 kms west of Mission, BC. All offenders who live at the institution are rated as minimum security. There are 50 beds at the facility.
