FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, September 15, 2006 - Inmates at Matsqui Institution have been locked down to facilitate a search of the living unit and common areas for illicit alcohol, material and weapons. The lock down was initiated after a large quantity of illicit alcohol was found Thursday in a footlocker in an empty cell.

Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been suspended. The Private Family Visiting program will continue during the lock down.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 336 male offenders.
