FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MISSION, BC, October 10, 2006 - A lockdown was initiated at 6:30 a.m. today at Mission Institution.
There are concerns with recent finds of home-made knives and 'brew' at Mission Institution. For the safety and security of staff and inmates, the institution is conducting a cell-to-cell search for possible weapons, drugs, alcohol, or other contraband.
The inmates remain locked in their cells until all areas have been searched and a risk assessment has been conducted. Regularly scheduled visits to the institution are cancelled until return to normal routine.
Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 263 male offenders.
