AGASSIZ, BC, October 19, 2006 - Kent Institution has returned to normal routine after one living unit was locked down on Monday (October 16).
The institution initiated the lock down because of an alleged assault and possible presence of a weapon. A search of the affected living unit was conducted, to ensure the safety and security of staff and inmates.
Inmates in the affected unit remained in their cells until noon today. During the search, contraband and unauthorized items were seized. The alleged assault is still under investigation.
Kent Institution is a federal maximum-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 223 inmates.
