CITIZENS' ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER HONOURED

AGASSIZ, BC, October 25, 2006 - Long-time Harrison Hot Springs resident, Leroy Burden, was honoured recently by the Correctional Service of Canada for his involvement as a member of Kent Institution's Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC).

Each year, one CAC member is chosen from the region to receive this national award for outstanding contribution to the community. The award recognizes a CAC member who, in the eyes of his peers, exemplifies the commitment and dedication to building safe and secure communities, by keeping citizens informed about the correctional process and contributing to the overall development of correctional facilities and programs.

Mr. Burden has served as a long-term member of Kent's CAC, including several years as Chairperson. He has been instrumental in establishing effective communication with institutional staff and inmates, as well as in recruiting new members. Leroy has also been involved in organizing CAC events, participating in forums and attending many training courses.

The certificate was signed by CSC Commissioner Keith Coulter and CAC National Chairman, Sean Taylor and was presented at the annual CAC National Conference in Montreal.
