FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MISSION, BC, November 27, 2006 - Mission Institution ended a locked down at 1 p.m., November 25 after conducting intensive searches of inmate living units and common areas.

Various paraphernalia and unauthorized items were seized; however the item of concern was not located. Searches continue while staff exercise due diligence to ensure the safety of the institution, inmates and staff.

Visits and inmate movement are back to normal.

Mission Institution is a medium-security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 268 male offenders.
