ABBOTSFORD, BC, January 5, 2007 - Regularly scheduled activities will resume this evening when the lock down of inmates at Matsqui Institution ends at 9 p.m.
Inmates had been confined to their cells since January 1 to facilitate searching of the institution after a quantity of brew (illicit, home-made alcohol), a cell phone and weapons were found and some inmates demonstrated an elevated level of threatening behavior.
The search resulted in the confiscation of various home-made weapons, two cellular phones, tattooing equipment, drug paraphernalia and other unauthorized items.
Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a population of 333 male offenders.
