FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM FERNDALE INSTITUTION

MISSION, BC, February 13, 2007 - A federal offender escaped from minimum-security Ferndale Institution today.

John Cody was noticed missing during the 11 a.m. count.

He is serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder, attempted murder, forcible confinement, use of a firearm, and break and enter. His sentenced commenced August 31, 1990.

His day parole and unescorted temporary absence date was January 26, 2004. His full parole eligibility date was January 26, 2007.

Mr. Cody is a 45-year-old Caucasian male weighing 67 kg (148 lbs) and stands 174 cm (5' 9" inches) tall. He has shaved blond hair, green eyes and a fair complexion.

RCMP have been notified.

Ferndale Institution is a 166-bed minimum-security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada and is located in Mission.
