FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., July 30, 2007 - A Regional Treatment Centre inmate died of an apparent suicide on July 28, 2007.

Michel Simon, age 63, was pronounced dead at 11:20 pm.

Mr. Simon was serving a life sentence for a second degree murder committed in October, 1998. His original sentence for a conviction of manslaughter commenced April 1, 1976.

Next-of-kin have been notified.

The Pacific Institution and Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 19-bed medical hospital, 96-bed psychiatric hospital, 96-bed rehabilitation unit, 127-bed program unit and a 96-bed regional reception and assessment centre.
