ESCAPES FROM FERNDALE INSTITUTION

MISSION, BC, August 27, 2007 - Two federal offenders escaped from minimum-security Ferndale Institution during the weekend. Staff discovered the escape when they conducted the 11 am count on August 25.

RCMP was notified and attended the institution.

The two escapees have been identified as Duncan Ryan and Christopher Lidstone.

Mr. Ryan is serving a 30-month sentence for fail to attend, theft under and fail to comply with probation order. His sentence commenced June 5, 2006 , and his warrant expires April 30, 2008.

He is a 46-year-old caucasian male weighing 98 kg (217lbs) and is 180 cm (5'11") tall. He has brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

Mr. Lidstone is serving seven years for import/export schedule 1/II substance. His sentence commenced on February 16, 2007. His warrant expiry date is February 7, 2014.

He is a 53-year-old caucasian male weighing 130 kg (287 lbs) and is 188 cm (6'2") tall. He has grey hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.

Ferndale Institution is a 166-bed minimum-security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada and is located in Mission.
