FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MISSION, BC, September 28, 2007 - Mission Institution inmates are locked in their cells today to facilitate an exceptional search following an assault on an inmate last evening. The injured offender has been treated and released from outside hospital.

Inmates will remain locked down until the search is completed and a risk assessment has been conducted. Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled until return to normal routine.

There were no injuries to staff or other inmates.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 267 male offenders.
