FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, November 8, 2007 - Normal operations resumed today at Matsqui Institution following a lockdown which began November 2.

Regularly scheduled visits have resumed.

The institution's main living unit had been locked down due to the discovery of illicit alcohol, assaults of two inmates and the discovery of a cell phone and charger inside the institution.

The exceptional search of the living unit concluded yesterday. The population has remained quiet during the search.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 344 male offenders.
