FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM FERNDALE INSTITUTION

MISSION, BC, November 11, 2007 - A federal offender escaped from minimum-security Ferndale Institution.

Olie Smith was noticed missing during the 4 p.m. count yesterday (November 10).

He is serving a two-year, three-month sentence for possession and trafficking. His sentence commenced February 15, 2007.

His unescorted temporary absence and day parole date was August 15, 2007. His full parole eligibility date is November 15, 2007. His statutory release date is August 14, 2008.

Mr. Smith is a 44-year-old caucasian male weighing 73 Kg (161 lbs.) and stands 175 cm (5' 9" inches) tall. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.

RCMP have been notified.

Ferndale Institution is a 166-bed minimum-security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada and is located in Mission.
