ABBOTSFORD, BC, November 15, 2007 - Inmates at Pacific Institution/Regional Treatment Centre have been locked in their cells since this morning when the institution was placed on lock down to facilitate searching of the institution.
This action was taken after a pair of scissors was discovered to be missing from an inmate program area.
An exceptional search is now underway to locate the scissors.
Regularly scheduled inmate visits have been suspended today. Private family visits are continuing as scheduled.
The Elder and Volunteer Appreciation Event scheduled for this evening will continue as planned.
The Regional Reception and Assessment Centre, located within Pacific Institution, remains on normal routine as they do not interact with the rest of the institution.
The Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 20-bed Medical Hospital, 96-bed Psychiatric Hospital, 96-bed Rehabilitation Unit, 127-bed Program Unit and a 96-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
