ABBOTSFORD, BC, March 13, 2008 - On Thursday, March 13, 2008, at approximately 8:05 a.m., a correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Regional Treatment Centre (Pacific). The injured officer was immediately escorted to the nearest health care facility to have his injuries attended to. They are not life threatening injuries.
In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, Correctional Service Canada will continue to work with the police in an effort review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action where necessary.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
The Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 20-bed Medical Hospital, 96-bed Psychiatric Hospital, 96-bed Rehabilitation Unit, 127-bed Program Unit and a 127-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
