LOCKDOWN AT PACIFIC INSTITUTION/REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE

ABBOTSFORD, BC, March 19, 2008 - Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre returned to normal operations this morning.

Inmates at Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre had been placed on lockdown since March 16th to facilitate a search of the institution for weapons. A number of unauthorized items and potential weapons were located during the search, including scissors, tattoo paraphernalia, an unauthorized carving knife, and some pieces of metal.

The Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 20-bed Medical Hospital, 96-bed Psychiatric Hospital, 96-bed Rehabilitation Unit, 127-bed Program Unit and a 127-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
