MISSION, BC, May 8, 2008 - At approximately 19:55 hours on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, Inmate Andrew Allan MacDonald, age 49, died of apparent natural causes while in custody.
Mr. MacDonald was serving a two-year six-month sentence for property crimes including break and enter, and possession of property obtained by crime. His sentence commenced on February 20, 2007.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada reviews the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mission Institution is a medium-security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 283 male offenders.
