LOCKDOWN ENDS AT MATSQUI INSTITUTION

ABBOTSFORD, BC, August 15, 2008 - The lockdown at Matsqui Institution ended at 1600 hrs today. All regularly scheduled visits and other planned activities have recommenced.

Inmates had been confined to their cells since August 10, 2008 to facilitate an investigation and search of the institution, following two inmate assaults.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford, BC and has a current population of 352 male offenders.
