MISSION, BC, August 26, 2008 - Inmates at Mission Institution are locked in their cells while staff conducts a search for contraband and unauthorized items.
The lockdown was initiated on Monday, August 25, and has been put in place in order to facilitate a search of the facility while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.
The lockdown will continue until the search is complete. Regularly scheduled visits have been cancelled.
Mission Institution is a medium-security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 283 male offenders.
