ABBOTSFORD, BC, October 27, 2008 - Fraser Valley Institution is locked down following an inmate altercation.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, two inmates were involved in an altercation and were non-compliant when given directions to stop and return to their units.
Additional staff was deployed, including the CSC Emergency Response Team and a negotiator. The Abbotsford Police Department was also advised of the incident.
Negotiations continued throughout the day and at approximately 4:00 p.m., the inmates became compliant and the situation was resolved.
No staff or inmates were injured as a result of this incident, and the Institution is expected to return to regular routine this evening.
Fraser Valley Institution is a multi-level security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located 100 km east of Vancouver on the Matsqui Complex in Abbotsford and has a population of 61 federally sentenced female offenders.
