MISSION, BC, November 14, 2008 - On Thursday, November 13, an inmate was assaulted by two other inmates at Mission Institution. Injuries are non life-threatening and no hospitalization was required. There were no injuries to staff or other inmates.
As a result of the assault, the institution has been locked down. Regular visits have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown.
In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action where necessary.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
Mission Institution is a medium-security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 280 male offenders.
