LOCKDOWN ENDS AT MATSQUI INSTITUTION

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. March 13, 2009 – The lockdown at Matsqui Institution ended at 1200 hrs today.  All regularly scheduled visits and other planned activities have recommenced.  

Inmates had been confined to their cells since March 8, 2009 to facilitate a police investigation and search of the institution, following a serious inmate assault.    The injuries sustained by the assaulted inmate have been assessed as non-life threatening. 

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford, B.C. and has a current population of 316 male offenders.
