FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT MISSION INSITUTION

Mission, BC, March 30, 2009  –Inmates at Mission Institution are locked in their cells while a search is conducted for contraband and other unauthorized items.

All visits to the institution have been cancelled until the search is concluded.

The lockdown was initiated in order to facilitate a search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada.  It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 276 male offenders.
