FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, April 29, 2009 – Inmates at Mission Institution are locked in their cells while a search is conducted for contraband and unauthorized items.

The lockdown was initiated in order to facilitate a search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so. Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 279 male offenders.
