LOCK DOWN AT MATSQUI INSTITUTION

Abbotsford, BC, July 13, 2009 - Matsqui Institution has been in lockdown since Friday, July 10 as a result of a missing kitchen knife.

The institution is locked down to conduct an exceptional search. Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown. Scheduled Private Family Visits are continuing.

CSC works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford, British Columbia and has a current population of 269 male offenders.
