FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT MOUNTAIN INSTITUTION (PACIFIC)

AGASSIZ, BC, October 19, 2009 - On October 17, 2009, Donald Kelly, an inmate from Mountain Institution died of apparent natural causes while in custody.

Mr. Kelly was 71 years old and serving a life sentence for robbery, kidnapping, forcible confinement and murder. His sentence commenced on May 22, 1970.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mountain Institution is a federal medium-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 440 inmates.
