Lockdown at Matsqui Institution

Abbotsford, B.C. , December 15, 2009 – Matsqui Institution has been locked down since Saturday December 12 as a result of illegal drug activity.

The institution is locked down for an exceptional search. Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown. As a result of searching, a number of sharp edged weapons and unauthorized items have been found.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by CSC. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 282 male offenders.
