FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, April 13, 2010 – The institution is currently locked down as a result of drug seizures and heightened tensions within the inmate population.

The lockdown was initiated in order to facilitate the search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so. Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 273 male offenders.
