FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contraband Seizure – Kent Institution

Agassiz, BC, April 16, 2010 - During a routine search of inmate property entering Kent Institution on April 15, 2010, approximately 19.07 grams of what has been tested as heroin was seized. The suspected street value of the heroin is approximately $3,000.00 and the institutional value is estimated at approximately $10,000.00.

Criminal and disciplinary charges have been initiated against the suspect.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug detection dogs and routine scheduled searches of buildings and cells. In this case it was the drug detection dog that was successful in this seizure.
