LOCKDOWN AT MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, June 11, 2010 – Mission Institution is currently locked down to facilitate a search as a result of concerns with increased drug activity and heightened tensions between inmates.

The lockdown was initiated in order to facilitate the search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled. The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 282 male offenders.
