FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, June 28, 2010 – Mission Institution is currently locked down following an inmate assault. The inmate suffered minor injuries and is currently back in the institution following assessment at the local hospital. The institution remains locked down to facilitate a search.

Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled. The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 281 male offenders.
