CONTRABAND SEIZURE - MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, August 10, 2010 - A package containing a significant quantity of drugs, two cell phones and accessories, and tobacco products was seized at Mission Institution on the evening of August 8, 2010. The contraband was seized by correctional staff after it had been launched from outside the institutional fence. The package has an approximate institutional value of $7,500.

As part of its Transformation Agenda, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.

Nearby residents are invited to contact the institution should they observe any suspicious activity. Residents may contact the institution directly at 604-826-1231 or the toll-free telephone tip-line at 1-866-780-3784.

Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 272 male offenders.
