Mission, BC, October 26, 2010 – Mission Institution is currently locked down following an inmate assault. On October 25, the victim was assaulted by an unknown aggressor in one of the living units. The victim was transported to an outside hospital for assessment and treatment of injuries, and later returned to the institution.
The lockdown was initiated in order to facilitate the search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates. An investigation is ongoing.
Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled. The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 272 male offenders.
