Mission, BC, November 2, 2010 Inmates at Ferndale Institution are restricted to their living units while a search is conducted for contraband and unauthorized items.
This action was initiated on November 1, 2010 in order to facilitate a search of the institution, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.
The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so. Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled at this time.
Ferndale Institution is a minimum security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and has a rated capacity for 166 male offenders.
