FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN – KENT INSTITUTION

Agassiz, BC, November 14, 2010 - At approximately 6:45 p.m. last evening, an inmate fight occurred in the gymnasium during the recreation period at Kent Institution. One inmate was suffering from stab wounds and was transported to outside hospital by BC Ambulance Service. The victim is reported in stable condition and it is believed he will survive the injuries.

A weapon was retrieved from the scene. An assailant has been identified and has been placed in the Segregation Unit. The RCMP and the institution's Security Intelligence Office are investigating the incident.

The institution will remain locked down until the searching has been completed. Regularly scheduled visits will not take place until the searching has concluded.

Kent Institution is a federal maximum security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 224 inmates.
