MISSION, BC, February 15, 2011 – Mission Institution is currently locked down and inmates are confined to their cells while staff conducts an exceptional search for a missing tool.
The lockdown was initiated at 2:30pm (local time) on Tuesday after a tool was reported missing from the Institutional paint shop.
All visits have been cancelled until the search is concluded. The facility will fully reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of the City of Mission and currently houses 272 male offenders.
